According to a study published in the July edition of Medical Care, the total number of trained nurse practitioners is expected to grow 94% from 128,000 in 2008 to 244,000 in 2025. The research, led by health economist David I. Auerbach, PhD, also found that there will be a significant growth in the number nurse practitioners providing direct care, which will rise 130% from 86,000 in 2008 to 198,000 in 2025.
